**WNBA Legend Draws Backlash for Using Angel Reese's Name to Promote New Show**


Candace Parker, the two-time WNBA MVP and three-time champion, has teamed up with Indiana Fever All-Star Aliyah Boston for a new podcast called "Post Moves," launching on Wednesday. However,  Parker's promotional strategy ignited controversy among fans after a teaser clip featuring her discussing Angel Reese went viral on social media Tuesday.

The teaser clip asks "Who would you choose to take over as the face of basketball: Angel Reese?"  This seemingly simple question sparked a wave of criticism directed at Parker. 


 **Fans Express Frustration**
Social media users flooded X with responses criticizing Parker's choice of words, accusing her of using Reese's name solely for clicks and attention.

"Speaking about Angel must be the only way to be heard on a Podcast or to stay relevant?" one user questioned. Another commented, "Candace we still talking about Angel?!"

Some fans even demanded that Parker stop mentioning Reese altogether, stating that it was becoming "too much." 


**Parker Defends Her Stance**
Despite the backlash, Parker maintains that she isn't a hater. In the teaser clip, she states, "I, in no way, shape or form am a hater." However, fan responses suggest that many remain unconvinced.

Parker is known for her strategic thinking and understanding of what generates attention.  While fans express frustration over her use of Reese's name, it’s undeniable that the strategy worked. The teaser clip garnered over 1.2 million views on X in just a few hours, generating hundreds of comments and bookmarks.

Interestingly, Parker also leveraged Boston's connection to Fever superstar Caitlin Clark for promotional purposes. However, this approach did not elicit the same level of negativity from fans.

Angel Reese currently holds the title of the most popular WNBA player based on social media following, boasting over 11 million followers across Instagram, TikTok, and X.  Reese's own podcast, "Unapologetically Angel," even used Clark in the thumbnail for its debut episode to generate buzz.

**Sky Forward Remains Questionable After Back Injury**

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese missed Thursday night’s game against the Seattle Storm due to a back injury. This absence contributed to the Sky’s second consecutive blowout loss, dropping their record to 7-17 and leaving them five games behind a playoff spot.  The injury to Reese, a two-time All-Star averaging 13.8 points and 12.5 rebounds this season, is a major concern for a Chicago team with little room for error.

**Reese Tests Back Ahead of Sunday’s Game**

While Reese was officially listed as questionable on the injury report, she was seen participating in individual drills on Saturday, seemingly testing her back ahead of Sunday's afternoon matchup against the Indiana Fever at home. 

The Sky’s injury report for the game against the Fever is extensive:

**Chicago Sky All-Star Shows Interest in Union Leadership After CBA Meeting**

Forty WNBA players attended the recent Collective Bargaining Agreement meeting with ownership during All-Star weekend in Indiana. Among them was Chicago Sky power forward Angel Reese, a two-time All-Star who made a significant impact despite not holding an official leadership role within the WNBPA. 


Reese's active participation and eagerness to learn about the union could signal her future aspirations for a leadership position within the organization. "I learned so much this past weekend how important it is to speak up and speak your voice," Reese shared following the meeting. "Coming down, I will be a union leader because I know how important it is."

Reese's Chicago teammate Elizabeth Williams, who currently serves as the secretary of the executive committee, praised Reese’s engagement. “She was really attentive in the meeting and asking me questions,” Williams stated. “And she’s asking questions even outside of that.” 


Even Seattle Storm power forward Nneka Ogwumike, the current WNBPA president, expressed enthusiasm for Reese's involvement. "I was so happy to see her in the CBA meeting," Ogwumike said. “She came to me and was like, ‘We should have more people.’ And I was like, ‘Oh!’ Because I was just happy we had that many players show up. And I thought, you know what? I need to think bigger.”

Ogwumike, who played a pivotal role in the league's 2020 CBA, recognizes the growing influence of young players like Reese and Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark. "They show a lot that they care about our generation, not just theirs,” Reese acknowledged. “They don’t know how much longer they’ll be playing. They’re doing it for our younger generation.”

The WNBA has experienced significant growth recently, thanks in part to the success of young stars like Reese. The league recently secured a $200 million media rights broadcasting deal and is projected to earn over $1 billion in expansion fees as it expands throughout the decade. 

On the court, Reese continues to shine for the Chicago Sky.  Despite some inconsistencies on offense, she has proven herself to be a formidable defender and rebounder. Across 22 games played, the 6-foot-3 LSU product averages 13.8 points on shooting splits of .448/.211/.778 (all improvements over her rookie season), along with 12.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game.

Star player Angel Reese was absent due to a back injury, further compounding Chicago's struggles. The two-time All-Star leads the league in rebounding, and her absence was keenly felt as Seattle dominated the boards, securing 39 rebounds compared to Chicago's 31.
